The magnificent estate of Ashton Court covers 850 acres of woods and grassland with breathtaking views over the city of Bristol. This historic public space is one of the finest spots to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Opened in 1836 by the Bristol, Clifton and West of England Zoological Society, Bristol Zoo is the world's oldest provincial zoo. It is a Victorian walled zoo located between Clifton Down and Clifton College, near Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge; it covers a small area by modern standards, but with a considerable number of species. In the 1960s the zoo came to national prominence by appearing in the UK television series, Animal Magic, hosted by the comic animal 'communicator', Johnny Morris.
The West’s world famous visitor attraction stars Concorde 216 – Alpha Foxtrot – which made its spectacular final flight home into Filton on 26 November 2003. Concorde at Filton is a temporary home for Concorde 216. Local organisations and companies are supporting the creation of a major aviation heritage centre, where Concorde 216 will be under cover as the centre-piece of displays and exhibits that detail the story of the region’s long-standing role in the world of aerospace.
The SS Great Britain was the first ocean-going ship to have an iron hull and a screw propeller and, when launched in 1843, was the largest vessel afloat. She originally carried 120 first-class passengers (26 of whom were in single cabins), 132 second-class passengers and 130 officers and crew but, when an extra deck was added, it increased the number of passengers to 730.

Bristol's waterfront has been transformed into a wartime dockside as part a series of events commemorating life in the city during World War Two. Vintage military vehicles have joined working steam trains at the city's Industrial Museum. A play about food shortages in the 1940s and a wartime cookery talk on by food author Marguerite Patten are part of the weekend programme.
